Picture this…bigger kid, ginger, freckles and loved to belt out a showtune and a tap dance. If that’s not the recipe for becoming the most popular kid in school then I don’t know what is (…obviously).
I come from a musical family. We all had talent for singing, dancing and the proper utilisation of jazz hands. My cousins and I (Sian and Blair) would spend hours every weekend performing shows for the family (for a fee of course)!
You see, being the kid who was a little bit different taught me the most valuable life lessons I could have asked for. Without building my “resilience muscle” from a young age I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So today, I wanted to share with you the three things my 10 year old self would say to you about pushing on no matter what anyone says…
1. You have no choice
You can’t just avoid going to school because people don’t like you and you’re being picked on. You just do it! You go to school knowing you might get a few bruises and cry a few times but you do it knowing that there will be uncomfortable times that will teach you how to manage the pain and emotions well.
2. You’re not fat forever
What I mean is that you’ll never be in the same place with the same people for the rest of your life if you don’t want to. You have the ability to change this as frequently as you like! Knowing you can change your surroundings and “reinvent” yourself to a new place and to new people will be the support you need for where you are at in your life and your business.
3. Don’t react
When someone calls you a name or puts you and what you’re offering the world down…simply ignore them. Don’t waste any of your energy on someone who is trying to interfere with your purpose and dream! Sometimes this is easier said than done, but in time this life lesson will stick and will pay dividends for years to come.
Whether you’re 10 or 60 or 80, resilience is one of the keys to living a fulfilling and complete life on your terms!
