The alarm goes off and you cannot believe it’s time to get up. You slam your phone and hit snooze (actually you snooze for a little while) as you lie in bed and think about your life.
You feel like everyday is a bit like Groundhog Day. You get up shower, go to work, come home eat dinner, go to sleep…then repeat…over and over and over again. You’re simply surviving. Everything feels the same; your health, your work and your relationships. The sparkle has faded from your eye. You want to change this but you’re stuck on where to start.
When was the last time you felt like this…like you were simply surviving? Maybe it was a while back or maybe I’ve just described your last 30 days.
Now think about a time when you bounced out of bed with energy and purpose! No snooze, music on and you couldn’t wait to make a start on the day. You felt loved and supported by the people around you and you were making progress with your goals and your life in general. You could feel the light pouring out of you. People wanted to be around you due to your energy and passion for life. THIS…this is THRIVING!
Can you remember the last time you were thriving in your life? Think about how long you were in that mode and how long were you thriving in that very moment. Was it mere minutes or maybe it was for a day, a week or a month?
I’m certainly taking you from one side of the spectrum to the other but over the last 12 months I’ve researched and spoken to audiences on the process of going from Surviving to Thriving and it comes down to one thing…YOU.
YOU make the decision (whether conscious or not) what side of the bed you wake up on. YOU can play the victim and tell the world all the reasons your life isn’t great or YOU can open your eyes, practice gratitude and get on with making a difference to the world.
