Wake up, Level up

Morning rituals may be on trend lately, but they’re no flash in the pan: It’s been true for years that people who wake up with the sun and work on themselves before checking Facebook have an advantage over the other 97 percent.

If you’ve listened to The Success Assembly podcast, you know that I’m fond of asking “what’s your morning routine?” I’m fascinated by what people do each morning to prepare for their best day ever. And even if all turns to rubbish after lunch, they still can get on with their day—and not let it knock them down.

I change my own morning routine—just slightly—every 90 days. As with marketing, we need to test and measure our morning routines in order to continually optimize them.

Before I tell you mine, let me say this: I don’t want any excuses about why you can’t do this. I don’t want to hear But Clint, you don’t have children or I live too far from my work or I don’t have a gym close to my house. The list of excuses goes on and on. Plenty of my clients have children, partners, sick family members, small businesses, large businesses, and houses in the bush. If you want to live a life of success, the first step is to leave the excuses behind.

Here’s an overview of my morning routine, beginning with a 5:00 a.m. wake-up:

1. Alarm goes off; first glass of water.

2. Meditation

3. Gratitude

4. Gym

5. Affirmations

6. 10 Mindsets for Success (thanks to Christina Guidotti)

7. Breakfast

8. Get to work!

Using a weekly tracker, I outline my goals and make notes about what I achieved regarding my habits. I aim to do this 5 out of 7 days (Monday through Friday).

I’d love to know what’s in your morning routine. So jump on over to Facebook and leave a comment!

PS: If you’re looking for a great book about setting an effective morning routine, I recommend The Morning Miracle by Hal Elrod.
