You heard it here first

Can you believe it? 2013 is almost in our rear view mirrors! So…the time is right to start looking ahead to 2014.

But first…I want you to think back to New Year’s Eve 2013. Did you set some personal and business goals for yourself? If you’re like most of us, you probably did. So, how has the decision making and action items that you needed to create help you achieve these goals?

Ok, I admit that’s a bit of a loaded question considering about 1% of the people receiving this newsletter have followed through and knocked their goals out of the park. Most people generally forget about what they promised themselves or simply gave up. Why? Usually it’s due to a LACK OF PLANNING!

November is the perfect time to plan for the upcoming year. When I mean plan I’m referring to planning for things like; what services and or products will you launch and when; how will you promote and market these new offerings; who will you engage with (i.e. who is your target market) and where will the sales be coming from and when. Some people think you need some physic ability or a mystical crystal ball to be able to do this type of detailed planning but I assure you, there are no superhero powers required.

What I’ve found over the last few years is that many business owners are reactive when it comes to launching new products or services. They will put something new together and only then will they get out there to speak about what they’re doing. Usually this is because they find that they need new work or new customers FAST so they will haphazardly create something and market it without doing the required advanced planning to ensure success. This lack of planning generally results in inconsistent income, ineffective marketing and it positions your business in the market in a way that often leads to failure. It’s like waking up, realising your unhealthy and overweight and then running a marathon the next day because, you know, you have to do SOMETHING!

So how are you going to ensure that your business will move to the next level in 2014?

Dedicate at least 2 full days to plan out 2014. Go through your entire business, top to bottom, and reflect on what was done (or NOT done) in 2013 and where things can improve. Go through your income, expenses, products, services, marketing, customer feedback, staff retention, etc.. The list goes on but you need to go deep and dig into every little fine point of your business. Too often we just keep chugging along year after year without ever evaluating the process or the results because we’re “too busy”. Think to yourself how valuable 2 days working ON your business would truly be…then make it happen!

I pose this challenge to you…right now, at this very moment, open your calendar and carve out 2 full days at some point in the next two weeks so you can plan for a successful 2014! I call it a challenge, but it’s really not. Planning for success isn’t something that’s negotiable. You must do it.

How I can support you?
If you’ve been receiving my newsletters for a while now you know I’m obsessed with giving you value each week! Due to amount of business owners who need assistance with planning, I’ve decided to offer a 3 hour, one-on-one planning session to those who want clarity, tools and strategies to ensure 2014 takes them to the next level. Here’s to a successful 2014!!
